An interview with John Dunne, CTO of Intune Networks around the subject of distributed data centres. John recently spoke at the recent optical society of America OSA conference in Los Angeles. In this interview he explains that companies like Google and Facebook are now facing due to the fact, that they are growing their data centres so rapidly. These data centre contain millions of cables, consume tremendous amount of energy and have an amazing number of switches. What they are looking for, is to cut down their cost and increase the performance by using the optical technology. Optical networking technology has not been mature enough to address these problems. In this interview John talks about how Intune Networks has addresses this problem and produced the worlds’ first market ready optical switch.
