International Investment and Underwriting (IIU) was founded in 1995 by Dermot Desmond. It is located in Ireland's International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. IIU is Dermot Desmond's private equity company with a focus on key sector areas including: Technology, Leisure, Transport and Food. Prior to founding the firm in 1995, he established a number of software companies serving the financial services sector.
Mr. Desmond was the Chairman of NCB, which he founded in 1981. He made NCB, Ireland's largest independent stockbroker. In 1994 Mr. Desmond sold NCB to the National Westminster Bank (now The Royal Bank of Scotland). Before setting up his own company ... in 1981, he was employed at Citibank; at the Investment Bank of Ireland; and was a Banking Consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers, in Afghanistan. Mr. Desmond was the original promoter of the IFSC. He also serves as a Director of Celtic PLC. Mr. Desmond is a Board Member of several companies, charities and educational bodies.
